Bertha Freeman-Barrett is a compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia with a deep commitment to empowering others on their path to healing and wholeness. With a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her practice. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Bertha specializes in helping individuals overcome traumatic experiences, guiding them toward recovery without the need to relive the painful details of their past.
Bertha’s therapeutic approach is eclectic and client-centered, recognizing that no single treatment fits all. She is dedicated to creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their emotions, identify triggers, and develop practical coping skills to thrive. She is especially passionate about trauma-informed care and helping clients manage the sensory and somatic effects trauma can have on both mind and body.

Beyond her role as a therapist, Bertha is a fierce advocate for mental health and a vocal supporter against domestic violence. She is the founder and host of Intake Talk Show on YouTube, a platform dedicated to breaking down mental health stigmas, addressing cultural norms, and promoting mental wellness for all. She believes deeply in the power of education and open conversation to drive positive change and uses her authorship as one of many tools to help with this.
As a COVID survivor, Bertha brings unique empathy and understanding to her work, especially for individuals dealing with the mental and emotional impacts of the pandemic. She is committed to helping clients navigate life post-COVID, offering support and tools to manage any lingering effects.

As an African-American woman, mother, wife, and professional, Bertha understands the complexities of balancing cultural expectations, personal identity, and self-care. Her lived experience, combined with her professional expertise, allows her to connect deeply with clients facing similar struggles. Whether it’s managing workplace stress, overcoming societal stigmas, or finding peace amid life’s demands, Bertha offers guidance rooted in empathy, strength, and resilience.
Helping Others Heal and Grow
With a background in both corporate and clinical settings, Bertha’s professional journey began as a residential counselor and later as an outpatient therapist for the Youth Crisis Center in Jacksonville, Florida. She has worked with adolescents, adults, and families, providing individual and couples counseling to promote mental and emotional well-being. Today, she continues her mission by also offering accessible care through BetterHelp, ensuring more people receive the support they need.
